Where do I start?
Choose where and how far you and your friends would like to walk or run. It could be a leisurely lap of the local park or as challenging as you wish.
The walk or run can be any distance; in capital city events the 4km walk has been the most popular. Once you have decided on your course, register your event with online to receive an Regional vent Information Kit to assist in organising your event.
What happens once I register?
A representative from the Mothers Day Classic team will contact you to confirm your event details and answer any of your questions. You will be sent out a Regional Event Information Kit to assist you in organising your event.
This kit contains fact sheets on Fundraising, Setting up a Committee, Sponsorship, Dealing with Local Agencies, Venues and Permits and Making the Most of the Media.
What if I only have a small group of friends for my event?
There is no minimum or maximum entrant number for a regional Mothers Day Classic event – you will be surprised at the interest you will create within your community, even starting out with only a small group of friends!
What if I want to get a larger group involved in my event?
If you have a large group involved in your event such a school, athletic or community group, you may have a few more considerations:
- Choose a location adjacent to your proposed course where you can set up a meeting area for participants on the day of the event and hold any planned fundraising activities.
- Contact your local council to see if they have any requirements you need to meet in order to use your chosen event location.
How do I enter my participants in the event?
Once your event is registered and confirmed it will be set up on the website so that participants can register for your event online.
How will I promote the event locally?
Closer to the event date, Mothers Day Classic will mail out posters and sample email text to assist you in promoting your event. Our fact sheets will also inspire ideas on fundraising, promotion and sponsorship to grow your event even more.
Will there be any prizes supplied for my event?
It is anticipated that prizes for your event winners/spot prizes will be sourced from local sponsors.
The Mothers Day Classic team can assist by supplying Brooks Prize Packs. Packs may include items such as drink bottles, shoebags, t-shirts and caps.
How are funds raised through regional events?
Entry fee proceeds from regional events will contribute to the overall funds raised nationally by the Mothers Day Classic.
You may wish to include some fundraising activities at your regional event to try and raise additional funds. There is no set amount you have to fundraise – every little bit counts.
Each participant can also significantly increase the amount of money raised for breast cancer research by getting friends, family and colleagues to sponsor their participation in the Mothers Day Classic.
What will people receive if they register to attend my regional event?
When people register online to attend your regional event they will be sent a race pack by the Mothers Day Classic team. The race pack will contain:
- A covering letter confirming the location and timing of the event they have registered for
- Support and remembrance placard
- Sponsorship and donations form (for use in seeking individual sponsorships and donations)
- Any purchased merchandise/apparel
- Medals and showbags will also be provided upon request of event organiser and sent to the event organiser’s address prior to the event.
What if I cannot stage an event on Mother’s Day?
All events staged in 2008 will be held on Sunday 11 May. However, if you are unable to stage or attend an event you might like to make a donation or carry out some fundraising on behalf of the Mothers Day Classic.
