How do I enter?

Your can enter via two methods.
1. On-line by visiting our event website at www.mothersdayclassic.org
2. Postal Entries

Entry forms are available at local gyms and sport centres. You can also download an entry form from the Mothers Day Classic website.

Is there anywhere to apply in person?

This year you can enter in person at Start to Finish, 4 / 11 Sabre Drive, Port Melbourne.

What time does each race start?

4km run
START: 7:40am
DIRECTION: Anti Clockwise
LAPS: One lap

8km run
START: 8:20am
DIRECTION: Anti Clockwise
LAPS: two laps

First wave of walkers
START: 9.40am
DIRECTION: Anti-clockwise
LAPS: 4km walkers - one lap, 8km walkers - two laps

When do entries close?

  • Early bird entries close Thursday 24 April at 5pm. Mail entries close on the 2 May.
  • Online entries close 5pm on the 7 May.
  • Entries will be taken on the day.

Will I be sent by race number prior to the event?

If your entry is received no later than Thursday 24 April your event information kit, including your race number, will be sent out. Otherwise race numbers will be available for collection from the registration area on race day.

I have sent my entry in but haven’t heard anything - has my entry been accepted?
Event information kits will commence being sent 4-6 weeks prior to the event. If you are concerned, call the Event Hotline on (03) 9645 1333.

Can I change the event I am in?

Yes, but the different walk/run events have different starting times. Just make sure you depart for the event you want to change over to when the announcement is made at the assembly area.

It is important that we are aware that you are changing events. Please go to number pick-up so they can record the change. You will retain the same event number if you’re only changing your distance. If you’re changing between a run or walk then you will need to be reissued with a new event number.

What roads will be closed?

NB: Closures are pending on approved by VicRoads, Victoria Police and City of Melbourne

  • Sunday 11 May 2008
  • Boathouse Drive (6am -1pm)
  • Linlithgow Avenue (6am – 1pm)
  • Birdwood Avenue (6am – 1pm)
  • Alexandra Ave, between Anderson St and Linlithgow Avenue (6am - 1pm).
  • Anderson St (6am to 1pm).
  • No parking will be permitted on Alexandra Ave, between the Swan St Bridge and
  • Anderson St, from 6pm Saturday 12 May 2008.
  • Dallas Brooks Drive - northern section (6am to 1pm).
  • Government House Drive (6am to 1pm) - access for permitted vehicles only.
  • Dallas Brooks Drive, closed north of Birdwood Ave (6am to 1pm).
  • Walsh St, will be closed to through traffic, however Left Turn Local Traffic Only signage will be placed at Domain Rd (6am to 1pm).

Where can I park?

Car parking is extremely limited. It is strongly recommended you use public transport to get to the event.

1) Arts Centre - open 24hrs
2) Southgate (access from City Road or Southgate Avenue) - open 24hrs
3) Federation Square - from 8am

Please adhere to parking restrictions if parking on the streets.

Can I catch public transport to the event?

TRAIN: Catch train services to Flinders St Station. Take the St Kilda Rd exit from station and cross over bridge to Alexandra Gardens.

TRAM: Numbers 3, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67, 72 services St Kilda Rd; disembark at the Arts Centre. Further information is available from www.victrip.com.au

I have received my race kit but not my merchandise?

Race kits and event merchandise are sent separately. If you have not received your event merchandise before the event you can pick it up on the day.

What will the entry show on my credit card?

If you enter by mail or online your credit card statement will show “WIS Mothers Day Clc”

Where can I pick up my race number?

Numbers can be picked up from 6:45am on the day of the event from the Numbers Pick-Up marquee located at Alexandra Gardens.

What if I lose my race number?

You can pick-up another race number from Number Pick-Up on the morning of the event. Runners woill be charged an additional fee for their timing piece. All participants must wear a race number. Anyone without a race number will not be permitted to start the event.

What should I wear?

Walkers - normal street clothes and a comfortable pair of shoes. Runners - comfortable running gear and shoes.

What happens on the main stage?

A number of delegates, celebrities and sponsors will be giving brief talks on the main stage. The main stage will also be used for the memorial minute of silence and warm-up aerobics.

8.50am - 4km runner presentations
9.15am - 8km runner presentations
11.00am - team presentations

How long will it take to walk?

4km - about 45 to 55 minutes
8km - about 90 to 120 minutes

What age categories are there for the runners?

U15, U18, 18-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+

Can I bring my pet dog to walk the course with me?

No. As with most fun runs the organisers will not permit any animals on the course.

Can I ride my bike alongside my friend who is running?

No. For safety reasons, bikes and rollerblades are prohibited on the course.

Can I bring my pram?

Prams are permitted but entrants who bring along a pram will be required to start at the rear of their group.

I have a toddler, do they have to pay?

Children under 4 are not required to pay the entry fee, however it is a fundraising event and money raised does go towards breast cancer research.

Are there any rules for young children?

This is a family event and children are encouraged to walk/run with their family.

What time does the event finish?

Presentation for the runs will commence from 8.50am and the walk event usually finishes around noon but many people stay around and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Are there any food vendors?

There will be many food and coffee vendors at the event, including a sausage sizzle.

Do you get a trophy?

Presentations will include trophies and prizes for male and female place getters (1st, 2nd, 3rd) of the running events. All competitors will receive a medallion in their show bag.
Age category winner’s medals will be posted in the mail two weeks after the event.

Will I be timed?

We are only timing the runners in both the 4km and the 8km runs. The walkers are not being timed.

What time will the aerobic warm-up start?

The aerobics warm up will commence at 7:30am for all runners and 9:20am for all walkers, in front of the main stage in Alexandra Gardens.

Where can I leave my bag?

There is a Clothing Marquee to leave your clothing at Alexandra Gardens. Please do not leave any valuables in it.

Where will the toilets be?

The toilets are located on Boathouse Drive and adjacent to the boatsheds on the way to the start line. It is advised that you use the toilets at the main assembly area to avoid congestion at the start line.

Where will the first-aid stations be located?

First aid stations will be located at the assembly area, finish line, and at two locations on the course.

Where will the drink stations be?

Water is provided at four drink stations, one in the assembly area, two on the course and one at the finish line.

Will there be massage?

Free pre and post event massage will be available at the assembly area.

Where do you pick up the MDC medallion and other event goodies?

Once you have completed your event, please return to the Alexandra Gardens to collect your Mothers Day Classic medallion, showbag and event goodies, kindly donated by our sponsors.

Where can I find out my results?

Results will be available for the Melbourne event on the website www.motherdayclassic.org on Monday 12 May at 5pm. Remember, only runners are being timed.

Can I get a tribute placard if I didn’t order one?

Yes, you can pick up your tribute placard on the event day.
