April 11th, 2008 by Sarah

I am back again this year competing in the Mothers Day Classic, and helping out with the organising committee in Adelaide. I have again chosen to run the long course, this year I am guaranteed to beat my time for last year as the course has been shorted by 800 metres! (and if I don’t I will look pretty silly). My goal for this years event to obviously run a good time and to raise some money, as I have elected in my on-line application to be sponsored! And you can sponsor me on-line.

I can not believe it only 5 weeks to event, so far I have not done much training as I have been busy sailing my 505 at the Australian Titles in Hamilton Island. Now that I am back in Adelaide and the boat is stuck in a shipping container some where on the east coast I will be able to do some much needed running. Most of my fitness focus this year has been cycling and weight training for sailing (and to maintain weight).

This Sunday will be my first run in a few months, I will let you know how I go in my next instalment.

Have a great weekend, and let me know how you go with your running on the weekend.

    Hi Sarah
I wish you best of luck for the event! You seem like an experienced runner. Thought I share my prep and seek some advice.
After missing a lots of such events last year and even this year, (Have been working in Mel/Aus for couple of years), it is the first time I am going to run in the event like this.
I had been going to the gym for quite some time (From Jan 2007 to March 2008). Since March this year while I was about to quit gym, I started jogging/running. By this time, I am able to run around 40 minutes continuously (If you are familiar with Fitzroy garden - 3 rounds of that). I am not sure whether this kind of practice is enough for running in the main event.
Also, as now it is the cold whether, could you advise me what kind of dress will be suitable for me for running in the morning, and any specific kind of shoes?
As you might have guessed, I am a complete amateur. Any advice will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Rahul

    Hi Rahul,

sounds like you are on the right track, make sure you keep running regulary and you do you long run on the day of the event. On Sundays I will try and run the race distance which is 8Ks and then shorter amounts (2 times per week) with some interval work.

Brooks have good shoes, and with gear I usually just wear my normal running shorts etc.. as it does not take too long to get warm.

    Good luck

    Cheers

    Sarah
